Importance of conservation for the pollination and pest management of crops using mangoes as a case study

Keywords

Ecosystem services, food web, pollinators, parasitoids, fruit pests

Location of study sites

South Eastern Limpopo Province (near Hoedspruit)

Project description

Beneficial insects’ abundance can decline with distance to natural areas. Using a food-web approach which includes pests and beneficial insects (pollinators/parasitoids), this project aims to evaluate the benefits of nearby biodiversity-rich areas to agriculture; as well as to identify and experimentally test sustainable farming practices that can improve production.
